The Word made Flesh continues...

Advent is a time of awe.  This year, for me, it has centered on the Lord paving a legacy for us. The flesh he took on is ours. And we continue HIS work on Earth.  How?

When the Word became flesh (John 1:14), He took on all the decrepit, weak, and pitiful traits of our humanity and lifted it to perfection.  He was tempted as we were and prevailed.

Then, His own people killed Him, at the hands of the Romans. And, as we know, all generations since have joined in the killing spree.

Didn't you know? We killed Him by our sins, the whole reason He endured it all.

But what you might not have internalized is that we, the body of Christ, carry the Word into the world. Perhaps this is what He meant when He said we will do greater works than He did.  Millions of us have done it throughout all those centuries.

We follow.  We feed the hungry.  We exhibit compassion to the downtrodden.  We share His word of life with the entire world -- to HIS glory, for it is by His Spirit that it is accomplished.  We are about the task of reconciling the world to God!  His blessed, spiritual children, we, still in our humanity, are carrying His Word, His Spirit.

Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.

1 Corinthians 12:27

Jesus, the Lord, left a legacy.  Those who received grace have been lifted.  But this is NOT just for ourselves!  Now the flesh, our humanity, carries the Word of God within us!  How mind-blowing is that!

We, in our weakness, must seek strength beyond our own to put our hands to such a holy work.  Jesus showed us the way.  His dependence on the Father through prayer was central in his life.  Over and over, we read of Him withdrawing to a solitary place to spend time in prayer.

So, this is where we must begin if we are to carry on His mission in His Name and in His power. Spend time with HIM today.  Awe will lift your spirit and send you on your way about the task!

In Him.  With Him within, we move into the world, our part of it, as He leads.  And to His glory.
