Weathering the wave of noise?
Sometimes I wonder how anyone bears the noise we are deluged with each day. Think of a Nepal-sized wave of media, changes, dangers, relationships, and responsibilities that we endure each day.
An international airport landing strip would compare for racket, so would a screaming room of toddlers all crying at once!
It is like living in white noise all around us when we'd rather hear our favorite music. No wonder many young people keep their earpods in!
The daily grind is unavoidable, but we can change what we do when we finally get alone with ourselves.
But then what? How many of us stick our noses in our devices, then ride the waves of more 'noise' and so-called entertainment instead of recuperating? I've heard it called doomscrolling, and that seems truly the best expression for it.
It spells doom for any hope of peace of heart...
You can google what to do about that: pruning your feeds, disciplining your intake, etc., but what that advice doesn't tell you is why you are there with your device in the first place.
You do not want to be alone with yourself...
It is true. Why face your problems when you can escape them? Drug addicts and alcoholics figured that out ages ago. Escapism has many varieties and all have the same root.
Our lives suck... And it costs to change...
So, take 5 minutes. Breathe. If you have truly had enough noise, then you are ready...
Look to heaven and cry out to the One who can help you out of the pit you find yourself in! Then put your phone away and listen to His voice, His answer, as you lay your life before Him! We have courses to help you do this, but the desire must be yours.
That desire to face that self- the awful, bombarded life that you don't know how to fix- is what you bring to God. It is when we are finally at the end of 'self' that He can take over.
Are you there yet? Has the noise finally overwhelmed your coping strategies? Then you are ready to face the ONE who brings peace, the kind that lasts more than a moment.
HIS peace, the one God grants in grace through Christ, is an early engagement present for the eternity awaiting His children, His chosen ones! If you are looking for real peace, HE alone can bring it!
So look up! HE is able! And He is waiting for you!
