Want to fly away too?

Want to fly away too?

The shorts have taken over: shorter days, shorter time for everything, shorter tempers.

Autumn is here, school has begun, and life is becoming darker and cooler with each passing day.  We feel it and agree with others of another age:

I said, “Oh, that I had the wings of a dove! I would fly away and be at rest.

 Psalm 55:6

Escape! What we would give to take flight with all those birds heading to the warmer climes to the south! We catch a glimpse of those teams, the wedge of geese flying over our heads, and wish we could join them too.

It is high time for an autumn 'cleanse!' No, not one of those health concoctions!

What I mean is a cleaning of the house, habits, and heart. Now, I'm gonna be honest with you; I am up for these myself right now.  Windows got done last weekend...😁

Speaking of windows, the house part is a no-brainer for us ladies.  One look around, and we know. Those new cobwebs and cruddy cupboards, not to mention the wardrobe swaps from summer lights to winter sweaters, to name just the most urgent.

The habits of being 'laid back' are harder to break.  The remnants of the dog days of summer can make us irritable, as we do not want to move so fast, and this makes us snap at any offenders trying to push us along. Look out! Then we are worse than some ol' grouchy dog.  I caught myself snapping at poor hubbie just today... 👾

Cleansing of the heart means placing our needs in the hands of a caring Heavenly Lord -- the need for strength, patience, and concentration. To this, the gratitude for just living, for provision for our families, for all the material things; and above all, the overwhelming spiritual needs, especially for more love and praise for that loving Father we are privileged to know!

So, let's 'fly away', but upward to the Lord of our lives. There we can glide in His glorious rest! If not in a bird's body, then in 'bird' soul!
