Mood Swings?
But even if we don't feel at ease, God is greater than our feelings, and he knows everything. 1 John 3:20
Up and down spirits, mood swings, define many of us. A good day is too often followed by disappointment, emptiness, or worse. It may be character, hormones, or horror environment at the bottom of it. I have been there and done that. Many of us have. You know who you are!
What to do when the downswing looms...
Recently, my body has gone through a new ailment that depletes my blood leading to chronic anemia. Talk about washed out! Energy is gone, the infamous mind fog plagues, hospital stays ongoing, the next transfusions…
Through it all, I discovered yet again the 'God Who Is There' was truly present with His strength and care.
I have learned to accept that healing may never come with such a stomach disease. It does not matter, not in the gist of things, for HE is carrying me through to whatever end. That is why the reality of God, the One in control of all, including my life, is a great truth.
If he is there with me, he can be there for you too! There is more! Look at who he is for us from God’s word:
HE is the anchor:
“... we who have fled to take hold of the hope set before us may be greatly encouraged. We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. Hebrews 6:18,19.
What does an anchor do? It holds fast and keeps us from drifting. In times of trouble, a Godsend! So many drift through life and mumble that God has done nothing for them. Are they anchored to him and his word? That is the question they should be asking.
He is a steadfast friend:
“Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness, and he was called God’s friend.” James 2:23
What does a friend do? He accompanies us through the trouble, helps, then listens, and sometimes, supports us. Abraham earned that title. In Jesus, that privilege is ours by what He did for us on that cross. He is closer than a friend. If we do not ‘feel’ his presence, we should ask where we have wandered...
The rock, refuge, stronghold of our lives:
“The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.” Psalm 18:2
What do these all do? We are lifted above the situation. Our place is not to dwell below but to stand high upon the solid rock, behind a strong wall of defense, safe in his care.
He is greater than what the news tells us, what our mood communicates to us and what we are going through, both mind and body. Even in a crisis. HE knows it all, if we have given our lives to Him, we live by faith! We live in his kingdom, up on high!
He can be anchor, refuge, rock, friend, just seek Him wherever the swing of your life has flung you.
