When your kitchen frig dies...
When our frig just refused to turn back on again after I was finished cleaning it, I learned some useful lessons, well, besides how fast food goes bad! 😣
Being a hot summer, this spoilage happens really fast. An hour-by-hour fast if not for the saving cool of night!
When our life 'heats up,' the same happens. Our 'perishables' are the first to go.
What about you? What perishes without proper care in your life? Relationships tend to; if not properly cared for, they can turn sour or, like the opened jars in our frig, get pushed to the back to die a slow death.
The stuff we use quickly, everyday, are likely to get used up and not ruin. Our milk almost lasted till used up but the seldom used open whipping cream was safer given to someone than risk it to a warm balcony demise. A jug of milk doesn't survive long in our house, frig or no frig. It never has time to go off, cereal lovers that we are!
Spiritual growth can be perishable too for many of us. It is a relationship in its purest form. When we do not talk to our loved ones, we do not keep up with their lives. When time and space change, we lose touch with some folks who were once an essential part of life. Everyone leaving school or university, or country, in my case, knows what this is like... Those relationships are never the same again.
Why should it be different with God? Over time, if we ignore Him and His lifeline to us, His word, He becomes a stranger, we feel guilty and don't know what to say. You know what that feels like?
Worse of all, without Him to keep US fresh, our lives have a bad habit of 'going off', like the milk jug left out all night, or the butter melting in the blazing sun... We lose what makes us His, what makes us whole. Â
So, one broken frig/freezer this summer has taught me a lesson. Have you also noticed that lots of the 'unfortunate' happenstance stuff of life do that?Â
"Maintain freshness!" --the lesson I learned, both with God, and naturally, in food preservation--frig or no frig!
How is your spiritual 'milk' holding up? Use it! Or lose it!
Poor ChatGPT's attempt at a visual keeping milk fresh...
