Dust or Bust!

Dust or Bust!

It takes no time. And it repeats.  In a few days, the thin layer of dust returns to cover all the even most meticulously cleaned furniture and floor. All women know the cycle; no woman likes it. I just recently fought it yet again!

Where does it come from? I actually googled this one.

Part is our own flaky skin, part from outside our home through the 'cracks', then there is the wear and tear of fabrics in our home.  The nastiest part to consider is the critters living on the flaky skin we shed and what they, in turn, leave behind. Ugh!

Sounds truly revolting, doesn't it?!  And the spiritual equivalent?

Has your desire to seek the Lord gotten 'dusty' lately?  Or has it been lost under years of disuse and resulted in a thick layer of dust and your own hoarded supply of 'fulfillers', the stuff that you have put in the place of God's will in your life?

Whatever it is, it is time for some 'soul-cleaning' better known as reflection before the Lord. Do remember that we can clean nothing here.  We have to have the Holy Spirit direct the housekeeping.

The flaky skin equivalent might be our sinful flesh affecting our lives. Here, the Spirit will convict us of sin.  Don't work it up emotionally.  Come to the one who sees, and knows.  Only He can cleanse at that 'atomic' level, so to speak.

Wear and tear in our lives take their toll. Have you settled into a pattern?  Is there any spark in your worship that has long since been covered over?  Or, perhaps, your faith has become worn.

Faith is a strange thing.  It is in the here and now; we must work every day as we bring our burdens to God.  Have you stopped doing that, sliding along the dusty floor called acceptance-- one of the enemies of faith.

Then, from outside, comes the dark of Satan's foothold in us. Those little buggers, like dust mites, leave behind stuff that can make us sick.  Without awareness of that work, we can be limping along, holding on to habits which are, in truth, sins dragging us down.  We get so used to the clutter that we don't even notice it anymore.

Habits like complaining, overeating, use of finances, and others can be infested with such sins; and as we take them for granted, we push them to a corner where they pile up, get hidden under the dust, and burden our lives.

Whatever state you are in, God can speak into your life, organise and vanquish the dusty layer from your walk with Him.  Seek His cleansing, then let Him show you, convict you, and empower YOU to clear out your part, too.
