The Sum of Life?
It is rare for a work of art to speak so loudly of reality. Look how the Bible agrees with the shadow sculpture!
“We are foreigners and strangers in your sight, as were all our ancestors. Our days on earth are like a shadow, without hope.” 1 Chronicles 29:15
Are we just spending our hours seeking pleasure or mindless pursuits?
“...for we were born only yesterday and know nothing, and our days on earth are but a shadow.” Job 8:9
What we see is not what is real! It is only a shadow cast by something else.
“My days are like the evening shadow; I wither away like grass.” Psalm 102:11
Like grass is a good description. A few moments before mowing, or in this case, tossing out the trash we have accumulated.
“They are like a breath; their days are like a fleeting shadow.” Psalm 144:4
How will future generations remember ours? What will they learn from our refuse piles? Our lifestyles?
“Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.” James 1:17.
The Father of Lights is the only sure light for life, the use of time and resources.
What do you think? What will you leave behind?
